Wow! It's been over a year since I've updated this thing. It is surely in need of an overhaul and I DEFINITELY need to update the work. So much has happened and I've done so so much... more to come soon!

In the meantime, here is my pumpkin from a pumpkin carving party last weekend and a Halloween doodle. I dipped into my darkside for a sec and got gritty with it. :D

Recently I got inducted into urbanINFLUENCE as their illustrator, idea man and soon to be co-project manager for a new division! It's been amazing working with this team - pure talent.

Anyways, this was a lil illu to cure some boredom. UI just moved to a new building because their old one burned down. They found a pigeon (UI's mascot), torched, lying in the middle of an alley. When the fire blew out of the windows, it claimed the pigeon. This is in regards to all that junk.

I had a bit of a silkscreening intensive with a buddy of mine this last weekend, and on top of everything else we printed, we managed to flip out this lil guy (AA Poplin wallet). We experimented with doing a "hippy roll" (gradating one color to another). It's a cool technique but it won't be ideal for this project.

We'll be printing a limited run of about 2 dozen in 2-3 weeks, so if you're interested, paypal 20$ + $5SH / $8 (international) to iamintricate@gmail.com

This run will be the banana on a gray wallet and possibly a different color on ivory. We'll post up the finals and let you choose, if there are variations.
We'll also be adding a little something to the inside left panel.

A reliable source: What was thought to be a 330ft deep sinkhole, turned out to be the home of a giant 300ft worm! Apparently it got super pissed off and went on a rampage, eating homes and little children. It only appeared for about 10 minutes then fled deep down into its underground layer. The country is on edge, wondering if it will come back again for more blood.

Ok just got back from getting these done. It doesn't take a genius to do it, just patience!

I can see how detailed images are NO GOOD for this... unless you have a steady hand and lots of patience. I'll definately be reworking couple stickers.

Anyhow how, if anyone is interested in any of the ones posted, I'll let you guys have them for $5ea ($8 for the dual angel/devil decal - 5"x9.5"). I've been looking around for other vinyl services and some places charge like $12-$20 for the same size!

Mudder's Milk

Had this idea flash into my head, had to bust it out.

"Mudder's Milk" - Mudder as in 'mother' with an accent. I used 'mudder/mother' because we nurse from a cow's udder.

Now I have a milk carton to go with my cereal box. :)

Not usually one to participate in this holiday, however it's an excuse to be creative and doesn't mean I have to contribute to Hallmark. :)

Threw this together yesterday, just in time. I call her "squarebear", so I went with that theme. The type was scanned in and done in Illustrator. I'm quite the type virgin, so don't kill me (but crits would be nice). The kit contains 7 1-color silkscreened prints, each on a different paper, some with another media (acrylic or spraypaint). I also got my button maker in the other day and had to try it out. The box is a pizza box that I've had forevvver, it just happened to be a perfect fit for the prints. I also have vinyl decals coming in on Friday - I'll update when I get them.

Oh yeah, today my puppy turned 1 as well. :)

This one started by using the inside of an envelope from a bill. The 'security' pattern is pretty cool - also kept the little cellophane window in tact. The rest just kind of came after...

One of my New Year's resolutions was to design a cereal box. I want to practice a bit so when the time comes I can execute it perfectly.

I'll be doing a few of these to send out as promo mailers.

I'm thinking of sculpting a handful of tiny ones to bake/paint to put in the boxes. (Haven't nailed down the casting process yet :\ )

Also going to bake up some of my own cereal and dye it super green. As for the rest of the box, I'm gonna go w/ the traditional back full of games.

Each color is a seperate piece of paper, cut to the shape of whatever feature/element. Yes, each snowball is its own piece O_O

Materials:
Paper: red (hats, tongue), white (snow, snowballs, eyes, teeth, hat rim/ball, speech bubble), blue (body, arrow), black (arrow pole), lime green (bg), magenta (body) and pink (tongue and arms).
I also used the black plastic piece that comes in a googley eye for the eye (cut it out of the plastic casing).
Outlined w/ black ink, shade/hilight with colored pencil (hard to see w/ pics and scan).

If you peel back the speech bubble, it has the 'translation' underneath. Also if you lift up the arrow, there are words as well.

I made the cards to fit together like a puzzle so that it forms one scene.

I flipped these out for my niece (11yrs) and nephew (9yrs). I'll be giving the pink to my nephew and the blue to my niece. I'm almost positive my nephew will whine that he wants the blue one... Then I can laugh at him and ask him why he wants to be "Stupid". Don't mess w/ your Uncle, sucka.

Crafty Characters - first round

Unfortunately you can't fully appreciate these until you see them in person. Aside from some black outlining and some marker shading, they're entirely crafted w/ physical objects.

The squidlit: Paper cd sleeve and some white paper. Pupil is scraps from a hole punch (punched bookbinding tape)
The ghost: Black construction paper, circles cut out showing the white underneath. Pupil is also hole punch scraps.
The beaver thing is 1 piece - one is on one side, and the 2nd on the other side. I used a manilla folder, a cd sleeve, some construction paper, and googly eyes on one side.
The face at the bottom is 100% craft. The main structure is a popcorn/drink holder from the movies. I used some extra cardboard, some painters paper, construction paper, copper wire and some gloss paper.

I'm working on making crafts easier so I can teach the kiddies! It's quite fun and I hope to continue pumping these out.

This was a pretty interesting article that provided a different take on Irwin.

I enjoyed it and felt compelled to write him a mesage. Read the article first.

My letter to the author:

Greetings Dr. David,

I am intensely drawn to writing you this message in order to elaborate upon how moved I am by your article "Exploring life force in Crocodile Hunter's death".

Short story long, I was just watching 'Hook' (the Peter Pan movie) for the first time in many years, and really picked up on some previously unnoticed points being made about childhood vs. adulthood. Needless to say it was quite a humbling experience and I suggest viewing it if you haven't seen it in a while.

As I have been reflecting on the details and symbolism of the movie, one scene broke off into its own thought path. It was a scene where Hook heard ticking. He had to destroy the ticking.

I started thinking: Ticking is time. Time is death. Death is the enemy.
Clocks were his (the symbol for adults) enemy. Hook and his sidekick, Smee, were talking about how they killed the Croc! (With their thick accent, it sounded like 'clock') The crocodile was symbolic for time in the story, and Hook had killed the biggest Croc in the land and had a clock stuffed into his mouth. I don't think the connection was unintentional.

Back to Irwin and power by association: Clock/Croc. Croc Hunter. Steve Irwin.

Creating a forced connection using the symbolism of the movie with the reality of Irwin's death - The TIME hunter was killed. His time was up.

Steve Irwin will be forever known as a personality; his being a personification of grown child. One man that was able to retain his adolescent charm. When I get on about these rants, I try to pay attention to my verbiage and the roots of such words. I looked up the word 'Adult' on dictionary.com and saw this as one of the definitions;

Having reached the limit of its time; due

I then began to think of words that have 'adult' as their base.
Adulterated and Unadulterated.

A synonym for 'adulterated' is, "altered".
And the definition for 'unadulterated' is, "not diluted or made impure by adulterating;"

My point is that we physically saw him as a grown man, an adult. But by all definitions of the unseen, Steve was not that. We saw a warm, caring and loving child-like figure that was passionate about something and was able to follow his dreams. In doing so, he won over so much of our adoration and our longing to be able to empathize. I think Diderot sums that point up best, "I found that of the senses, the eye is the most superficial…"
Cognitive dissonance is a powerful tool.

If Steve was the last and biggest defense, our hero, against growing up and the age of innocence, then what comes next?

I think your article is somehow an embodiment of what has already been going through my mind (and much more), but was wonderfully articulated. I guess that's why you're the published and I'm the one writing to him. :)

I used to be able to balance 3-7 boxes of pizza on a hand w/out support from my other hand. Somehow over the course of one year, I've completely lost all sense of balance. Maybe my life is out of balance...

Anyways the point of this rant is not that I shouldn't apply for another pizza gig, aside from how much fun I had doing it... No. This is about the fact that I was carrying my Macbook Pro from 1 room to another, had it sitting on the soft case it slides into, open, and it slipped off and slammed onto my glass table thus leaving 2 battle wounds. 1 in the front under my cd drive and the other being in the back near the fan area. GAHH. I felt it dent my soul a little too. :|

Well as was said by a friend of mine:

"the sooner you get the first dents outta the way, the better. just like with a car, once you get your first dent, the level of stress over 'babying' it decreases greatly..."

This is post numero uno and what a way to start it off, than to bash those who have provided me with a way to connect to you all.

Apple is who I am referring to.

I recently made the transition from PC to Mac, hoping that they would live up to their reputation.

I'll just consolidate my posts from another forum so you can get a taste for what I've experienced.

Ordered:

15" Macbook Pro 2.16gz
Upgraded from 1gb to 2gb of RAM
Mighty mouse

Upgraded order to 2day shipping.

I recieved only the mouse on the 2nd day.
called up Apple to find out that the other products wouldn't arrive until the following day.

They refunded the 2 day SH charge.

I recieved the computer and RAM (they didn't install for me) only to find out that they sent the wrong stick of RAM.

Now I have to send it back, wait for it to get to them so they can refund my bank account - then wait for it to register to my account - then order a new stick and wait for it to be shipped again.

Since getting the machine, I have experienced Kernel Panic 15+ times - Ended up having to take in the computer so that they could ship it to HQ to see what was wrong w/ it - Now I have to wait another 5-7 business days before recieving my machine.

And because I bought the machine refurbished saving a few $, I didn't qualify for the ipod deal and couldn't use my student discount.

Between all of the problems, shipping, and tech support time, (phone/driving to the apple store), I'm not sure if I even saved $ in the end - in fact I've probably lost some.

My macbook has been at apple for almost 2 weeks getting "repaired". Actually, I've been looking at

when I try to get an update for quite a while.

I call in to get yet another update... and he says "good news, the status changed from 'on hold' to 'ready to be repaired' ... however, it may not be the highest up in the queue"

I say: "I've been waiting 2 FULL weeks, why isn't my shit FIRST in the queue"

He said: "Since they just recieved the part a few hours ago, it's too soon to ask them to move it up."

TOO SOON?@!

I'm furious.

Another update:

They repaired my machine, sent it to testing and it failed. So it got sent back to repair and the earliest I'd see it is the end of NEXT week. That's pushing a MONTH of it being "in repair".

I just spent an hour on the phone (40 mins on hold) and finally worked my way up a bit w/ my incessant bitching. I wanted a full refund but it has gone past the 14 day period. (I had my machine about 3 days, they've had it the rest). At first the guy started every sentence with "well unfortunately..." but I told him to review my damn file to understand what all I've been through. He came back about 10 mins later (yeah my file was that extensive) and offered an entirely new machine.

I'll be content w/ that. The only part that I now regret is when he was reading off the specs of the machine, he said "with a 1gb RAM upgrade" and I corrected him saying that I had returned the RAM and got a refund. (I thought he had my profile right there!) Ah well, a clear conscience.

Anyways, pretty sure this has NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND.

Final update:

I received a call from the supervisor I had been dealing with, confirming that I had received my macbook, but also to inform me that when he had sent a message to the repair depot to just send the refurb back to Apple, it hadn't reached them in time. They sent out the refurb the same day as the new one.

I now have 2 machines.

He sent me some shipping labels to send it back... he sounds worried.

What I find ironic is that they weren't willing to step up to their errors when it was affecting me (at least w/out endless incessant bitching), but now that I have something of THEIRS, he's all over it.
